SEC CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION:
What better way to conclude an SEC football season than putting the winners of the two divisional races together for a championship contest! The SEC Championship Game has made its place among the "games to see" in the Southeastern Conference. The title game has provided SEC fans plenty of memories and has catapulted teams to national championships and top national finishes. LSU won its second SEC Championship, defeating Georgia, 34-13. The Tigers went on to defeat Oklahoma in the Nokia Sugar Bowl and claim the national championship. SEC title clashes in 1992, '96 and '98 also sent teams to national championships. Antonio Langham's 27-yard interception return with 3:16 left propelled Alabama to a 28-21 victory in the first SEC Championship Game and sent the Crimson Tide on their way to a national championship in 1992. In 1996, Florida's Danny Wuerffel threw yards and six touchdowns as the Gators defeated Alabama, 45-30. Florida went on to the Nokia Sugar Bowl and defeated Florida State for its first national championship. Tennessee's second trip to the SEC Championship Game proved to be a road to a national title in 1998. The Vols came from behind in the fourth quarter against Mississippi State to defeat the Bulldogs, 24-14. A month later in Tempe, Ariz., the Vols defeated Florida State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. It's these special games that make Atlanta in early December the place to be for any college football fan, especially one who holds the SEC dear. Ten of the 12 games have been sellouts, including the last eight contests. Currently, the SEC has a waiting list of more than 1,000 customers for future games.
